Men Are Less Bargain Conscious Than Women

An AdweekMedia/Harris Poll asked consumers what mattered more...

"Getting the very best bargain" or

"Getting the very best product or service"

Women and younger consumers are much more bargain conscious. However, a substantial number of consumers buy the best, regardless. How can you find out what people want?

It's simple. You ask them. In today's economy, everything is uncertain, including the sales process. Don't rely on what worked robotically in the past. Ask questions. Qualify. Trial close.

Internet Usage Statistics

Forget the title. This is an interesting presentation from Razorfish about Internet usage with breakdowns by age. It shows that traditional media is still the best way to reach the oldest Americans, but up to age 40 to 45, the Internet is dominating.

The common failing of all of these research studies is the failure to consider direct marketing, like direct mail. Direct mail has much more in common with Internet marketing than television or radio.

People Trust Brand Websites


This is stunning research data from the Nielsen Global Online Consumer Survey. I wish the survey had included direct marketing, such as direct mail, shared mail, door hangers, flyers, and shows. Still, it reveals that websites carrying the company brand are more likely to be trusted than any other form of advertising, save word-of-mouth.
